Historical Background:
GMSS Sikar was established in February 1986 with a view to providing residential and educational facilities for rural girls pursuing their studies in the city of Sikar. Although the city was a district headquarters, it did not have any hostel facility for rural girls. Under these circumstances, parents—both rich and poor—seldom sent their daughters to Sikar for higher studies. As a result, many girls had to abandon their education at a great cost to their career prospects. It was felt by all concerned that the prevailing situation could damage the social fabric to an unprecedented degree. Taking this into account, some social workers representing all sections of society assembled in the central hall of the old Zila Parishad, Sikar, and resolved to form an educational society under the leadership of Shri Sukhbeer Singh Batar.
